Joni Mitchell Si aprono gli archivi di Joni Mitchell

Joni Mitchell sta per aprire per la prima volta i suoi archivi. Semplicemente intitolata Joni Mitchell Archives, la campagna metterà in evidenza materiale inedito di tutta la sua carriera, mostrando l'evoluzione ed i cambiamenti avvenuti nell'artista nel corso dei decenni.

L'imponente progetto d'archivio della serie inizia con il Vol. 1: First Years (1963-1967). La collezione di cinque CD, che uscirà il 30 ottobre, comprende la prima registrazione di Mitchell, una performance radiofonica del 1963 in studio per CFQC AM nella sua città natale, Saskatoon, nel Saskatchewan.
Ci sono anche le prime versioni di canzoni come Michael From Mountains e I Had a King, un mini set del 1965 per Let's Sing Out su CBC TV, e la sua rara cover di Neil Young di Sugar Mountain, così come le demo di casa a New York City del 1967 di Free Darling, Mr. Junk, Chelsea Morning e altro ancora.

Il Vol. 1. si chiude con un'impressionante performance in più set  registrata alla Canterbury House di Ann Arbor, Michigan, nel 1967. Questo gruppo presenta oltre 20 registrazioni dal vivo, tra cui Go Tell the Drummer Man, I Don't Know Where I Stand, Night in the City e Both Sides for Now.

In una dichiarazione su queste registrazioni recentemente scoperte e sulla sua prima etichetta come "cantante folk", il 76enne Mitchell ha detto,

"Le prime cose, non dovrei essere così snob contro di esse. Molte di queste canzoni, le ho perse. Sono cadute via. Esistono solo in queste registrazioni. Per tanto tempo mi sono ribellata al termine "non sono mai stato un cantante folk". Mi incazzerei se mi mettessero quell'etichetta. Non pensavo fosse una buona descrizione di ciò che ero. E poi ho ascoltato e... è stato bellissimo. Mi ha fatto perdonare i miei inizi. E ho avuto questa consapevolezza... ero un cantante folk".

Questo Vol. 1 è accompagnato da un libretto di 40 pagine con una serie di foto inedite. Lo scrittore e regista Cameron Crowe ha anche fornito ampie note di copertina.

Sia la CFQC AM che le performance di Canterbury House saranno anche pubblicate individualmente su vinile da 180 grammi, limitate a sole 10.000 copie.
